Dr Boby Vaghese
Project:
Oxidative stress metabolism studies during desiccation, cryopreservation and germination of some tropical recalcitrant seeds.
Current Research
Dr. Boby Varghese has a M.Sc. and Ph.D from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University (India) and since the past many years his research interests revolve around various aspects of plant germplasm conservation especially, oxidative stress metabolism and its role in determining the success of short to long term ex situ storage of plant germplasm. Recent research work involves studies on the status and role of various free radicals and antioxidants during slow and rapid dehydration (Varghese et al., 2011), cryopreservation (Varghese and Naithani, 2008) and germination (Berjak et al., 2011) of recalcitrant embryos. His recent area of research envisages the use of cathodic amelioration during the different steps essential for the cryopreservation of recalcitrant germplasm.
